Building Biliteracy through Cross-Linguistic Connections
Learning to read and write in a second language builds from the first language and involves making connections and exploring the characteristics of both languages. This concept, referred to as cross-linguistic transfer, facilitates bilingualism and biliteracy in bilingual education. In this session, you will learn and obtain practical tools to implement different classroom strategies that promote metalinguistic awareness between English and Spanish.

Unlocking the Science of Reading in the Spanish Biliteracy Classroom
Are your classroom practices aligned with the Science of Reading? Join us for this three-part workshop to unlock the Science of Reading in the biliteracy classroom. You will leave the workshop with practical, efficient strategies and evidence-based routines to use in the Spanish literacy block, including cross-linguistic connections, phonological awareness, phonics, reading, writing, and more. This session will be delivered in English and Spanish. This workshop is appropriate for K-3 bilingual teachers and instructional leaders.
